ARTIST OF THE WEEK! – The Pharcyde

“Now there she goes again, the dopest Ethiopian…” with that line Fatlip immortalized himself as the one of the most influential artist in the golden era of hip hop. I’ve encouraged the reader to check out the nascent rap act Earthgang, but today we pay homage to the group that laid the sonic foundation for the eclectic Atlanta based outfit.

Twenty-eight years ago Pharcyde dropped the classic Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde, packed with intricate lyrical flow of Passin Me By, the hysterical dozens in Ya Mama or the perfect combination of comedy and of Oh Shit, this instant classic has not only endured, it has aged well.  Their sophomore follow-up Labcabincalifornia continued their influence featuring the classic jams Runnin and the first single from the album Drop which featured the production of J Dilla and the groundbreaking video directed Spike Jonez. So NeoSoul Cypher would like for you to take it back and revisit the classics by this influential Golden Era group.
